This lot was produced by Bekele Belacho, on his family’s farm in the Kokose village of Sidama. Bekele is a third generation farmer who inherited his farm from his parents and has spent over 10 years cultivating coffee on this land. Alongside coffee, Bekele also grows bananas, false bananas, and avocados, but whereas these plants act as a source of food, coffee is how Bekele makes his income because he knows how to make a banging bean.
From the first sip you'll find easy going fruit notes similar to peach or blueberries while the natural processing provides a silky satisfying mouth feel, comforting body and aromas reminiscent of a perfectly baked muffin straight out the oven.
During processing, cherries were hand sorted, then dried on raised African beds. Because these beds are outdoors, weather conditions were carefully monitored, and drying cherries were covered overnight and during rain or intense midday sun. This lot of cherries took between 15 and 20 days to be dried to satisfaction and be ready to begin the next step of their wonderful journey to our roastery.
This is the first year we've worked with Bekele Balacho but we feel this could be the start to a wonderful fruity friendship for years to come!
