November Roasters Choice - Memoirs of a (Colombian) Geisha

Colombia Marisela Sanchez - Washed Process

It may only be November but we're bringing the holiday gifts to you early this month! The weather is getting colder, the air is getting crisper and mornings are getting harder so we wanted to give you something special to wake you up and make those mornings slightly easier. So without further adieu let me introduce to you a stunning washed geisha from Marisela Sanchez.

Marisela Sanchez - Process & Harvest

Marisela is the top dog at the Sanchez family estate keeping her family's history and name prominent within the specialty coffee world. You may recognise the Sanchez name from our Roasters Choice line up earlier in the year from the astonishingly good Rigoberto. Well if you enjoyed the flavour symphony that brought to the party you're going to love the delicate delectable flavour profile Marisela has created within each and every bean of this super special lot.

The Sánchez family have a small “estate” in El Portal, Palestina. This land was granted to Marisela’s parents by the Colombian government in the 1950s, and they have been growing coffee in this area for the duration. Located in Huila, this region is world renowned for the excellent coffee that it produces.

With the passing of the land to the second generation - the family have split the estate into smaller plots, each owned and managed by Marisela’s siblings and wider family, with the main processing and drying station situated at Marisela’s house.

As Marisela is approaching retirement age she has focussed her efforts, instead deciding to focus on her work within her community and to start producing coffees of lower yield but of higher value and rarity. This geisha is testament to the care and attention to detail Marisela puts in to her work each and every day. This is what history and heritage tastes like.

Chipp Coffee Co. Roastery Update

October has been a fun one! You all seem to have loved the hilariously named Boobeans which, for those who aren't super cool and don't already know, was our Roasters Choice for October, and is now never to be seen again.

But behind the scenes we've been busy preparing a multitude of fun things for the oncoming retail onslaught that is Black Friday / Cyber Monday and Christmas.

Zach was invited for a chat on the wonderful Anything But Coffee podcast where he sat down for a brew with our good friend Bryan to talk about anything but coffee. It's full of laughs and if you'd like to get to know the big man himself a little better this is a great listen.

We've launched two new coffees this month; the first is a juicy washed Kenyan full of fresh fruits with a crisp finish that's a close relation to the Kii, which we featured earlier this year, called KimatuThe second is an astonishingly good natural Ethiopian called Bekele Belachowhich highlights Ethiopian excellence with it's delicate florals and perfectly balanced sweetness. Get them while you can because they'll be gone reyt soon.

What We're Listening To

Despite Zach's best efforts to play Christmas music simply to watch my blood boil we've managed to listen to some bangers this month.

The main one that I feel like I need to mention is 'Better Lovers - Highly Irresponsible'For those that are up to date with their metal lore, this band will need no introduction. But for those who haven't joined the party yet, Better Lovers are a metal supergroup which includes members of Every Time I Die, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Fit For An Autopsy. I'm not going to give you a song to start with, just bang it on, volume up to 11 and go nuts for 40 minutes, the whole album is pure gold.

Marisela Sanchez is available ALL NOVEMBER as part of our Roasters Choice selection.
