September Roasters Choice - The Kii To True Happiness
Kenya Kii - Washed Process
It's September! Throughout 2024 we've heard one question more than any other; "When are you getting that proper juicy Kenyan back in stock?" Well, the days are getting shorter and the kids are finally going back to school so we thought now would be the perfect time to give you all what you've been asking for! So why not bring in Autumn with a juicy, fruity sweet cup of golden brown from the Kii Washing Station nestled in the rich volcanic foothills of Mt Kenya.
Kii - Process & Harvest
One word keeps cropping up when you hear people in the coffee industry talk about the this coffee; meticulous. That's the only word that truly shows the level of care that goes in to each and every bean from this incredible part of the world. Local farmers, typically manage around 250 coffee trees, deliver their harvested cherries to the Kii factory run by the esteemed Rungeto Farmers' Cooperative (RCS). The RCS has earned a reputation for unparalleled care and attention to detail and in turn producing truly remarkable coffees.
At the Kii factory, only the ripest cherries are accepted and an addition round of hand sorting and floating is conducted to remove any cherries that are less than perfect. After, the coffee is depulped, fermented and thoroughly washed. To ensure the best flavour notes synonymous with Kenya are at the forefront, the coffee is then soaked further in fresh Kenyan water for extended periods.
The drying phase takes place over two weeks on custom designed drying beds to ensure optimal air-flow and temperature control to ensure consistent and exceptional results in each and every bean.
This is the second time we have worked with the incredible farmers at Kii and we hope we can keep bringing their incredible beans straight to you year on year.
Chipp Coffee Co. Roastery Update
Normally in August things get quiet, the weather is sweltering and everyone goes on their holidays, but apparently not this year! You lot can't seem to get enough of the good stuff from Chipp so from the bottom of our hearts we want to say thank you for your continued support. We feel super lucky to be able to do what we love every day and it honestly means the world to us that you choose a little indie from Yorkshire over your local Costa or Starbucks.
In other news we have some awesome new merch coming your way soon! We've seen how much you all love the REYT GOOD stickers so we're working on something super cool for you all. We're also working on a new collection of t-shirts that highlight the beautiful flavours found in our most popular coffees so keep your eyes peeled for some new beautiful merch that will make you instantly look cooler than all your mates.
What We're Listening To
This month we want to a highlight an artist that's a constant inspiration to our roastery manager, HARDY. For those that don't know, HARDY is a country singer from Mississippi who blends classic country with modern rock and metal in to something completely new and wonderful; he's even got a few songs with Post Malone!
If you're a fan of anything alternative, HARDY has something for you. Looking for some classic, red dirt road, cold beer sippin' country then we'd recommend 'Beer, Screen or Here Lies Country Music' but if you want something a bit angrier you NEED to check out 'JIMBOB, I AIN'T IN THE COUNTRY NO MORE or RADIO SONG'.
